Pine Cove Club is an important part of our weekly program here at Outback. Every night we head to the Corroboree, or sometimes the Lake Shalom Dock, to gather for a time of worship and a message from God’s word. We want Club to be a time that campers really enjoy because so much truth is presented to them; truth that can be relevant and life-changing. We wanted to show you a piece of this process through introducing you to this summer’s worship leader, Curby.

This is Curby’s second summer at Outback, and second summer of being in the band. One unique thing about Curby is that he often isn’t the one at the front of the stage singing and playing guitar. Instead, as the head worship leader, he wants to equip his team to be the ones leading. Instead of just coming to work at camp and playing music for a summer, he wants to train them to be better worship leaders so they can take these skills back to their campuses and churches and bless others with the gifts God has given them.

As for the campers, his goal is that through their worship experience at camp, they would feel comfortable engaging in worship through song and connect with the Lord in the process. He wants them to understand why and how we can worship God, because of who He is and what He has done for us.

One thing Curby has learned about the Lord so far this summer is His mercy. He has been reading through the Old Testament and seen how merciful the Lord is to His people, even before there was atonement for their sin (Jesus, who comes at the start of the New Testament). So even though the people could not repay the Lord for their sins because there was yet to be a perfect sacrifice, the Lord still chose to forgive them. What a cool reminder! We can rest in the mercy Jesus won for us on the cross, and in the mercy that God has shown to creation since the beginning of time.

With that in mind, know that your camper is getting some quality musical accompaniment with which to worship the Lord this week; for His mercy and countless other praiseworthy characteristics.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. -Colossians 3:16
