Today in Bible study we continued to explore our theme of seeking God. At the midpoint of their stay here at the Outback, more and more campers are really starting to get it! The memory verse today was Colossians 3:12:

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience

We talked about how having compassion for the hurting and love for the unloveable is not something that our natural state enables us to do, but that we have the above qualities available to us through Jesus Christ. We also discussed performance and how we can do the right things but have selfish reasons. We recognized that God does not want our performance but our hearts and how seeking to put on these attitudes in Colossians 3 helps us grow in intimacy with Him.

It just so happens that the theme of seeking snuck into our after dinner activities too! Tonight was our Operation Infiltration (“O.I.”) theme night. It all started when Queen Cleocatra decided to take over Outback because she was mad about us not having cats in every cabin! The campers were sent on a mission to take back camp by sneaking through the O.I. forest and pretending to be one of Queen Cleocatra’s drones. As they did this, they had to seek out spies who held the codes they needed to win Outback’s freedom.

Thankfully, they did it! The counselors who were hypnotized are back, and we’re about to find out who the winning cabin was! There are always wonderful, hilarious stories told tonight about how campers avoided capture, so make sure to ask your camper about them on Saturday! One of my personal favorites was when a group of boys pretended to be biologists looking for a rare, nocturnal bird. When pressed for answers about the bird, they came up with fake habits and even a latin name for it on the spot! It was an awesome night, and Outback is safe from capture yet again.
