My name is Taylor Jervis and I’m the Shores Camp Director. Here at Pine Cove, I go by “Fish Face”…unfortunately. Ha!
I want you to know that I could not believe more in the power of God at work here at camp to transform the lives of people for His purpose and glory. And I believe that He is faithful to do it in and through your camper this week.
There is a lot I want to tell you below – so that you can partner with us in praying for our college staff and your camper.
Three Quick Things
First, I need to say thank you. We recognize that dropping your high schooler off with us is a big deal – especially this summer. And we take this seriously! Thank you for giving us the opportunity to grab the parenting-baton from you and love them as much as we can during their time at the Shores!
Second, we have prayed for, recruited, found, interviewed, background checked, hired, and trained the best college students in the world to lead and love your camper. They are truly Christ-Centered, Others Focused, and Seriously Fun! Please pray for us!
Third, I want you to know that your high schooler will hear about Jesus every day, multiple times a day. And I believe they will see Him lived out in our staff as well – in the most fun and free display of living within the safe gates of Pine Cove. This has been our model for ministry since the beginning, and God uses this discipleship process of sharing the Gospel and our very lives to transform young people!
This summer our Bible Study Theme and the overall spiritual direction of the Shores is “Draw Near.”
In Club on Sunday night, I’m going to share with everyone that I believe they are here this week for a purpose – that this week is God’s way of getting their attention. This week is His way of coming closer, showing Himself, speaking to them. I believe that camp is for drawing near.
I think we can look at the entire narrative of Scripture (and history) and boil it all down to one word: “WITH”. I truly believe God wants to be with us. Do you believe that this morning? That your Heavenly Father just wants to be with you.
God loves His children. He created us so that He could be WITH us. He sent His Son to live WITH us. He sent the Holy Spirit to be WITHIN us. And we are now called to walk by the Spirit to be WITH others so they can be WITH Him. (Woo! I just got chills again.)
Too often, I lived in a way of doing things FOR God instead of WITH God. This is the “With Life” – drawing near to His presence, believing His promises, and practicing His way. You can be WITH Him right now and forever!
God’s heart for your camper this week (and forever) is to “draw near” – not “do more.” And that is His heart for YOU, too!
Seriously, there’s nothing else you have to do to experience closeness with God. Just draw near. Come closer to Him. Seek His presence.
This week, our Bible Study theme is all about presence. What is presence? Simply it is “you here now.” All of a person – physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually; aware and focused at the specific place they are in; right this very moment. And the truth is that God is present – all of Him, with you, right now! And His presence is the answer to everything – so we draw near to Him.
I would love the privilege to share with you a snippet of their Bible Study each morning through this CampLife app. Would you commit to reading through a short devo, meditating on Jesus’ promises, and praying for yourself and your camper when you receive the notification around 9am each morning this week?
I don’t think it’s any coincidence that after several months of distancing and separation, God is writing this story and calling us to draw near to Him.
So today, come a little closer. Draw near to Him.
He is drawing near to you.
