The Towers’ gates opened today and over 350 boys and girls began what will be an awesome week of camp! The staff here are excited and privileged to spend 6 days of unending craziness during engaging activity classes, tasty meals, loud cheers, and intentional moments of pouring into the lives of your campers.

We blasted off our time tonight in a colorful, “Neon Space Adventure” and your campers participated in some fun games around camp!

The day concluded as everyone gathered in the Rock (our dining hall) to hear from “Get Smart”, the Towers’ camp director. Get Smart not only shared a funny story from The Book with No Pictures, but also introduced us to some of the amazing things God shares with us in His Word. Jesus was not merely a good man who did miracles, but rather, the very Son of God. He was fully God, yet fully man here on earth. Get Smart told us the story of a man named Balaam who had a crazy experience while riding his donkey, where God humbled and called him to follow his leading (Numbers 22).

Your campers also learned about the true story of a widow who had very little. In Luke 21, this widow only had two small copper coins, yet she gave all she had into the temple treasury. Jesus stated,

Truly I tell you,’ he said, ‘this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on’.
Luke 21:3-4

Get Smart shared all of these true events because God calls us to himself in crazy ways, just like Balaam. And the Lord doesn’t just call us to follow himself when we have plenty, but even in times of need, like the widow, we are called to give all of ourselves.

This week we will be using the story of Elijah to share with your campers what it means to follow the Lord…and we are SO excited!
