Hey Parents!
We’ve had such a great day today! Your campers ran around the Towers trying to defeat evil monkeys in today’s theme day, Jungle Jamboree. Crazy monkeys have taken over camp and have stolen all of the bananas out of the jungle. King Leo the lion needed campers to save the jungle! When cabins were stopped by the evil monkeys, campers pretended to be animals and tricked the monkeys into handing over the bananas. Campers were successful in saving King Leo’s jungle!

Today in Bible study we learned more about the life of Elijah!

Read: 1 Kings 18:1-19

It’s been three years since Elijah stood before King Ahab and said that it wasn’t going to rain. In those three years, not a single raindrop had fallen from the sky. All this time, Ahab was searching furiously for Elijah and was angry at the trouble that he was causing. The Lord then instructed Elijah,

Go back to talk with Ahab. Travel back and give him the news that I will send rain.
1 Kings 18:1

Ahab can’t believe his eyes when he arrives and sees Elijah standing right before him.

Elijah steps out of his chariot and Ahab shouts, “So, is it really you, you troublemaker of Israel? I’ve been looking for you and am ready to kill you for all the trouble you’ve caused.”

Elijah boldly contends, “I have made no trouble for Israel. You and your family are the troublemakers, for you have refused to obey the commands of the Lord and have worshiped the images of Baal instead.”

So Elijah unveils his plan to the king, “Gather everyone and tell them to come to the mount. Have the prophets of Baal come and meet me on top of the mountain and we will discover once and for all who God is.”

This week our study of Elijah’s life challenges us to live lives of boldness and faithfulness, even when challenges may come. Let’s be faithful followers of the Lord who deny ourselves and obediently pursue His leading.

Key Verse: John 8:12

Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, ‘I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.’

Questions:

  • What can you do to be more ready to hear God’s direction in your life?
  • Is there anything in your heart holding you back from hearing God?
  • Describe one area in which you think God may be trying to teach you something very important right now in your life.

Pray: Thank God for examples like Elijah. Pray that He would give you faith to walk with Him in light and lead others to that light as well.
