Howdy Silverado parents! It has been an amazing Week 5 so far at Pine Cove! One of the best parts of camp is seeing all the fun that campers get to have each day. I get to see campers riding horses, playing dodge-ball, and dancing during meals. I also get to see campers hanging out with their counselors and cabin-mates each day having a blast together. Tonight’s theme night, Stealth Patrol, is no exception!

Throughout all the fun at Silverado, God is doing incredible things! Campers spend time each day learning from God’s Word during Bible Study, memorizing Bible verses, and learning from their counselor during reflection time each night. It’s encouraging to see a passion for God’s Word begin in many campers lives this week! I pray that passion will continue to grow tonight during our Club talk as we focus everything we’ve learned this week on the Gospel! The Good News of Jesus!

What Good News!? Well this good news is a response to the reality that we are not perfect people. In the beginning God created people to be a unique part of His creation. We are unique because we, as people, unlike any other part of creation, were created to be in a relationship with God, the perfect and holy King of the universe and Creator of all. He set people apart from the rest of creation to be in community with him. Even though this perfect relationship and community existed, we as humans chose to rebel against God. Even the smallest act of disobedience against our holy and good-natured God has caused a split between He and us. This division has lasted through generations of people. Our nature as humans is rebellious. “For all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

Not only does this mean that we cannot live in community with God, it also means that since we cannot reside with God, who is Life, we now deserve death.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
-Romans 6:23

This free gift of God, the eternal life found in Jesus is the Good News, the Gospel! God himself, Jesus Christ the Son, entered our broken and rebellious world and lived a perfect life, the one we could not live. He then gave his perfect life in exchange for our imperfection, dying on the cross. Jesus then rose to life three days later, having endured punishment for our sins so that God now sees us as justified and righteous, acceptable for community and relationship with Him! Praise the Lord for what he has done through His Son, Jesus. He has saved us from the hopeless task of justifying ourselves.

This Gospel message is something that Silverado campers have been learning about all week, and are hearing again tonight. I am excited that I get to share it with you tonight as well. As you reflect on the joy of your own salvation, or perhaps wrestle with this truth for the first time, pray for your child who is hearing the Gospel tonight. I pray that God will use this message at Pine Cove to transform the lives of people for His purposes and His glory!

I hope this week at home has been awesome so far, and we can’t wait to see you Saturday!
