Hello Parents!

My name is Jared “King of the Forest” Hunsucker, but I go by K-Fore here at camp! I am Head Lifeguard this summer, which means I oversee all of the waterfront activities at camp. This is my 6th summer at Pine Cove and it has been such a blessing for me as the Lord has used it to challenge and grow me.

Tonight, we caught a glimpse of our future during Wrinkle in Time night, where campers dressed up with mustaches, canes, glasses and more! We hobbled around camp helping the elderly in order to save Bingo Night! Your kids are not only learning while having tons of fun, but they are also learning about God and His infinite love for us.

I grew up in a Christian home – went to church every week with my parents and did the “Christian things.” Slowly but surely, my identity began to become based on my actions. I was good at being a Christian because I could outwardly seem like everything was fine, but inside I was broken and lost.

In the summer of 2004, my parents sent me to this really awesome camp, the Pine Cove Ranch. There, the Lord sparked a desire in my heart to grow in relationship with Him. As I learned more of the Lord’s character, a glaring problem hit me in the chest.

I was living a performance based life style.

My self-worth was directly related to how well I did in school, how many friends I had, how good of a person I was or how well I did in sports. It was an exhausting cycle of self-justification. I could never do enough to fill the void in my heart. I was yearning for love and approval from the world, and yet, the Father had created me to only be satisfied by a relationship with Him.

So what is the love of the Father?

It is this simple. Jesus Christ came and lived the perfect life that you and I could not live. He came and took the punishment for our sins so we don’t have to. He took the penalty we deserved and now we have the opportunity to accept the gift of eternal life.

Learning that truth has changed my life in more ways than one.

This past year, 2 Peter 1:3 has been a theme verse for me. It says,

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence…

Because of Jesus and the eternal love of the Father, I have been given everything I need not only for this summer, but also, for this life. This is the message that our campers get to hear every week and this is the reason I love the ministry of Pine Cove.

I pray constantly that kids continue to get to hear this message because they need it! We all need it!
