Here at Pine Cove one of our main goals is to have fun with your campers, especially at meals. Along with dancing on chairs and doing crazy cheers, one of the highlights of lunchtime is the skit that senior counselors and program staff put on. Each week comes with a new plot; this week was about family and learning how to work through differences. The skits are mostly improv, making them interesting for counselors and campers alike. The skit for the week begins the first day at lunch and is continued everyday until Friday.
In addition, we had a skit that corresponded with the Superhero Shakedown theme night this year. This took place in the morning to give the campers a little taste of what the theme night would look like and left them hanging, waiting to see how the skit would end. At the beginning of the superhero themed dance party, the skit was concluded in a way that called for celebration. Campers danced the night away while learning the traditional Pine Cove dances and ended the party with the ever-classic Jesus Freak song.
The main reason behind skits is to break down walls between campers and their counselors through laughter and lessons learned. This allows campers to engage with each other as well as with their counselors in order to build relationships with one another and ultimately with God.
For He Himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility.
