While we believe that every summer at Pine Cove is special, 2017 stands out above the rest. This summer we are celebrating 50 years of Pine Cove! From our humble beginnings as a single camp in Tyler, Texas to reaching more than one million campers in 2012, it has been an amazing adventure. The Lord has been faithful every step of the way.
Our journey began in 1964 when Bill McKenzie decided to form a new Christian camp. Four men, including Bill McKenzie, Bill Garrison, and Professor Howard Hendricks, rowed onto the lake in the middle of what is now the Woods family camp. Here, they spent time in prayer for what would later become Pine Cove.
In 1968 the McKenzies opened the doors to Pine Cove, welcoming their first campers to the Woods. Fifty years later, Pine Cove has expanded to three different regions (South Carolina, Central Texas, and East Texas). We now have ten camps, plus a traveling day camp. Next summer, we’re excited to open an eleventh camp in Central Texas!
We are thankful and humbled that God has chosen to use us to glorify His name as we stay Christ-centered, others-focused, and seriously fun.
No one is as excited to celebrate this milestone as Founder Bill McKenzie. We are so thankful that he chose to follow the Lord’s call to form Pine Cove over 50 years ago. Without his faithfulness, we would not be where we are today. Check out the video below about Bill as we celebrate all that God has done over the last 50 years.
