Time flies when you are having fun and man did this week(/two weeks!) go by fast! With Bible studies, activity classes, and theme nights we had a great week! Tonight, we engaged in a little friendly competetion for our last theme night, OSPN (Outback Sports Programming Network) Under The Lights. Campers dressed in their athletic wear and put on their game faces to compete in various tournaments around camp. Everyone cheered on the oldest guy and girl cabins as they faced off against our leadership in ultimate frisbee and flag football. Then, after hitting the showers and getting dressed up for our awards ceremony, we all gathered at the Boomerang to celebrate the champions and have some dessert.

Tonight, our older campers are spending some time underneath the night sky, lit up by the abundance of stars to look back and reflect on their week. The younger campers have already begun Camper Share! Campers are encouraged in this time to take in the beauty of God’s creation and think back over the week and all the lessons they’ve learned whether they are from Bible study, an activity class devotional, or a hang time. Counselors will spend this time praying for campers’ hearts and that their barriers to the wonderful news of the gospel will be broken down.

In these peaceful moments, some campers understand for the first time the Truth; that Jesus paid the price for our sins and that it is nothing we do, but what He did, that allows us to have life in Him.

He counts the number of the stars; He gives names to all of them. Great is our Lord and abundant in strength; His understanding is infinite.

Psalms 147:4-5

At Camper Share, campers will have an opportunity to share with the rest of camp what they learned and how God transformed their lives this week. It is a humbling time for all as it becomes clear that authentic life change has happened in these campers lives that could only have been brought about by genuine encounters with Christ. Finally, there will be a chance for campers to stand and declare publicly their choice to follow Jesus, and through smiles, tears, jumping, and dancing we will welcome our new brothers and sisters in Christ .

Pray with us:

  1. Pray for our time of reflection under the stars tonight. This is a time that many campers have told us had the most impact on them as they got to experience the greatness of God’s creation and think back on the week’s lessons!
  2. Pray that God will move in the hearts of campers, drawing them to Himself and opening their eyes to see the beauty of His free gift of grace.
  3. Pray that campers will be bold enough to stand up for and declare their choice to follow Christ, not only tonight but as they go back to their lives outside of camp.

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12

What better way to spend a Friday night than under the light of the stars, reflecting on the Light of the world. It sure has been a wonderful week at the Outback!
