Jesus’ first major dissertation, the Sermon on the Mount, lays the ground work for Jesus to usher in his kingdom. He established himself not only as a great teacher, but a solution to the problems that arose from the law. Jesus is the fulfillment of the law, and he sets the stage for his eventful sacrifice for the sins of mankind years later. What is so encouraging about this is that we don’t have to be perfect to have a reconciled relationship with the Father. All Jesus asks for is a repentant heart and a pursuit of him. His death on the cross purifies us in the eyes of the ultimate judge. He became the appeasement of God’s just wrath– wrath that we deserve! We can rejoice in the fact that Jesus bore our sins on the cross so that we can have an unhindered relationship with him. What great news!
