“U.S.A! U.S.A! U.S.A!”
If you were at the Shores this past week, you definitely heard this chant ringing across the camp. We had an incredibly fun-filled week at camp, putting a patriotic twist on all of our regular activities.
Our skit characters this were Jo and Mo Liberty, two brothers who were a part of a long line of famous boxers and coaches. When two prospectors, Goldtooth and Redhead, showed up trying to dig up the camp in their endless search for gold, Jo and Mo had to summon their American pride and get to training in order to defend the Shores from being excavated!
On Friday, a twist was put on the run for Spirit Stick. The boys and the girls all teamed up and faced off against each other in a massive, patriotic spirit competition. The guys, with their theme “Freedom Friday”, held their own against the girls and “Lady Liberty”, but in the end the girls pulled out the win.
We ended our week on the Shore of lake Palestine, where everyone sat and enjoyed an amazing fireworks display on the dock. All of camp sat and watched as the sky exploded with color, patriotic music playing in the background. And of course, there were sparklers.
We here at the Shores are thankful that we live in a country where we are free to worship God and spread His Gospel without legal persecution. We do not take lightly the freedom that we have here in America, and we are certainly thankful for our amazing country!
However, we are also thankful that our freedom does not ultimately come from a government that, often times, will fail us. Rather, we know that our freedom comes in the form of Jesus Christ, and His death on the cross. In dying for us, Jesus took on all of our sins, failures, and shortcomings and set us free to bask in a relationship with our Father in Heaven.
Let freedom ring!
