Good afternoon parents! Your campers just left our Dining Hall, The Caverns, and are headed to their cabins for their fourth Bible study of the week! We’d like to share with you a summary of what they’ll be learning as they dive into the book of Philippians. We hope that this study of God’s Word teaches us where and how to find JOY everlasting!
Yesterday, the campers learned that Christ is our example. Today, we’ll be learning about making it our goal to submit to the humble example of Christ.
As Paul continues his letter to the Philippians, he reminds them to rejoice in the Lord ALONE, putting no confidence in the flesh. He does this by counting everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus. He pursues godliness because Christ has made him his own.
In Philippians 3:14, Paul writes,
I press on toward the GOAL for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Our goal and the end desire of our hearts should be knowing Jesus and being found in Him. None of us can reach this goal on our own. We all need a “righteousness from God that depends on faith.” In striving for Christ we must be aware of false teachers and those who make life all about themselves. We have a citizenship outside of this temporary world, found in heaven. So, we don’t have to put confidence in our own flesh, but in Jesus alone. Because of that, we have JOY.
We’re asking the campers how this identity that “Christ has made us His own” should change our view of self.
Please pray alongside us for the campers to submit to Jesus with a joy that comes from God, that they would count the things of this world as rubbish in order to gain Christ, attaining righteousness from God through faith.
Have a great day!
