There is a joy available that the deepest grief cannot put out. No circumstance or person can take away the joy God gives. Tim Keller
Good afternoon parents! Your campers just left our Dining Hall, The Caverns, and are headed to their cabins for their first Bible study of the week! We’d like to share with you a summary of what they’ll be learning as they dive into the book of Philippians. We hope that this study of God’s Word teaches us where and how to find JOY everlasting!
The campers begin in Acts 16:11-40, where they meet the creators of the Church at Philippi:
- Lydia, a wealthy businesswoman who worshipped the Lord
- The slave girl, who had a spirit of divination and participated in fortune-telling
- The jailer, who was in charge of keeping Paul and Silas in prison
As Paul was preaching, the Lord opened Lydia’s heart to pay attention and she was baptized. When Paul became greatly annoyed with the slave girl, he commanded the demon to come out of her in the name of Jesus Christ. After Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God in PRISON (they were joyful because they had the honor of suffering for Christ), an earthquake opened the doors of the cell. The jailer asked them what he could do to be saved.
These three characters had different economic, social and spiritual backgrounds, yet God used them to create the Church at Philippi.
Before we go on to study the letter to the Philippians, we’re asking the campers how they see God’s provision in this story.
We kindly ask that you would take a moment today to partner with us in prayer for your campers to know the love of God that provides unsurpassed JOY. We pray that you, parents, would also know the joy that comes from our Savior Jesus Christ.
Have a great day!
