Wow. Where have the weeks gone? It’s the second Thursday of this Cultivate session, and I don’t think any of us can believe it.

Today I had the privilege of sitting in on a Cultivate session taught by our camp director, Pat “Michelangelo” Preston. He started out by asking everyone if they wanted to grow in their relationship with God, and every hand in the room went up. He pointed out three things that could help do that, and they were people, circumstances, and spiritual discipline.

Focusing on discipline, he went on to talk about how, although we often think about disciplining our bodies with exercise, we usually neglect to discipline other areas of our lives. A few areas of spiritual discipline that he mentioned were reading the Bible, prayer, fasting, obedience, evangelism, and service. He told them discipline takes time, is often uncomfortable, and it involves others in accountability.

Immediately following the talk, the Cultivate campers got the opportunity to go on a service project in Columbus! They traveled into town and went around the church, town square and some surrounding neighborhoods offering to help pick up branches and sticks that were in peoples’ lawns.

After this they were invited to a cookout at our IWS director Neil “Plowasaki” Anthony’s house where they ate chicken stir fry, played games, worshipped and had another Club session. It was a fitting talk for approaching the end of the second week of Cultivate, and they went over Colossians 2:6-7.

Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.

We pray the things the campers learned these two weeks in Cultivate don’t just become a part of camp memories but that they take them into their daily lives.
