Another day at camp, another Bible Study!

Today’s topic is The Presence of God is: the Protection of My Purity.

Though we will talk about sexual purity, the main focus today is on Jesus and His purity!

It’s not lost on any of us that our world, and especially the young American culture your camper lives in, is filled with sexual imagery and desires. Turn on your phone and within a couple of clicks you can have access to an endless amount of whatever you want.

Though we may have way easier access now because of technology, sexual sin has been a problem since the beginning. Look all throughout the Old Testament (and the New) and you’ll see God’s people going into deep sexual sin and then God graciously bringing them out – and the cycle continues for a long time.

Our Memory Verse today is Psalm 51:10-11: “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.”

God graciously brings us out and gives us new hearts.

What we hope today is not to bring any more weight or burden of guilt on your camper (or you) than they may already feel because of their sexual desires or past. In fact, we are praying that right now in this very moment that the Holy Spirit would begin to soften your heart to this topic and begin to powerfully lift the weight of guilt off of you. He can and wants to do it!

Bottomline today – God loves you. In our worst moments, our Father comes in, draws near to us, and speaks to us gently and graciously. And He makes us 1) new 2) free and 3) alive!

How does He do that?

The above verses from Psalm 51:10-11 is written by King David, after he took Bathsheba and killed her husband. Guilt, shame, bondage was terrorizing his soul. He is crying out for God to give him a new heart, to draw near to him.

Several hundred years later, a new King came. He lived in perfect purity – something none of us can do. He took on a death we deserve. He rose victoriously. And He will return triumphantly!

2 Corinthians 5:21 says “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

Jesus put his purity on us! And He took on our impurity! The Righteous One became unrighteous, so that the unrighteous ones could become righteous! Scripture tells us that the Father now sees YOU as He sees His Son.

Do you believe this today? Are you living in this truth today? Are you new, free, and alive?

Your camper is being asked the same questions. Would you stop and pray for them right now?

God wants to be WITH us. He wants to draw near. So, He gave us the perfect purity of His Son to protect us in moments of temptation and for eternity! Believe today! And draw near!

Pray and thank God for drawing near to you and exchanging our purity for Jesus’ purity.
