All week we have been talking about what it looks like to follow Jesus. Today was the last morning of Bible study, and we talked about who we were made to be as God’s creation. We talked about how abiding by the law is our purpose on Earth, not doing so goes against who we were created to be. After the original sin, the disconnect between man and God caused man to live without a purpose. What was once a beautiful creation turned into something that was broken. However, the good news of Jesus’ death and resurrection has restored the disconnect between us and God. The same mankind that was living without a purpose can finally live according to God’s will.
“For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile everything to himself, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.”
So what exactly is our purpose? We were put on this earth to live in a way that glorifies God. Being good managers of the things that we are given. As followers of Christ, we have the responsibility to share the Gospel with anyone who is dead in their sins. Our job is to show people the way to eternal life with Jesus. Having a relationship with God means to live a life of hope, joy, peace, patience, kindness, love and goodness. A life without Jesus is filled with hopelessness, hatred, fear, anger, death and selfishness. While doing good works is important, what is greater is the spiritual work of preaching the Gospel.
