“He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:10-11
One of the biggest blessings of Pine Cove is getting to see how the Gospel plays into the lives of every person involved in camp. While it is the staff’s role to pour themselves into the campers, the campers are also the ones who build up the staff. It is a joy to hear of conversations in which parents thank the staff for the sacrifices they have made and remind them of the eternal difference they are making, and then see how the staff is encouraged to give even more of themselves for the sake of the Gospel. We are able to see a staffer in her twenties talk to Wild Woods girls about how their insecurities fade away when they look at themselves through the eyes of Christ, and realize that regardless of a ten year difference in age, these girls struggle with the some of the same things and can bear each other’s sufferings as they uplift one another. At camp we notice the unshakable faith of children as they adore their counselors and soak up everything they can from them. This blesses the counselors and rids them of any inhibitions or self doubt they may have had concerning their position, freeing them to love more deeply. The gospel is so evident through this mutual encouragement between every age group as we strive to “live together with him.” The community experienced at Crier Creek is unique and irreplaceable, and constantly reminds us that the purpose behind every aspect of camp is to bring glory to God. Every camper and each staff member is able to be used through Him to display His power and further his Kingdom, and we are so excited to be a part of how He is working here.
“I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong- that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.” Romans 1:11-12
