Hello! My name is Elmer “Fresh Pants” Francisco. I am 23 years old and I attend Missouri Baptist university. I will be a 5th year senior and am studying exercise science.

I am originally from Santa Clara, Cuba and moved to Florida when I was 7. I have been a Christian since I was 10 years old and I have a passion for missions. I enjoy hanging out with friends, playing sports, and just doing stuff outside.

I heard about Pine Cove from one of my best friends and teammate, Matthew “Beagle” Behr, the Towers Program Director. Working at Pine Cove for a full summer has been the best decision I have ever made.

The following is a spoken word poem that I have written about the first few weeks here at Pine Cove!

The Lord is My Strength

A full summer in Texas awaits me.
Patiently waiting for training week to start,
I packed up my bags and headed to Tyler, Texas.
Only knowing about Pine Cove from word of mouth,
I anxiously awaited the unexpected.

Training and orientation week,
was without, a doubt, a blast.
I met many incredible people,
I knew these bonds would last.

It all seemed like I was too comfortable.
It seemed too real to be true.
I told myself,
“Self, this is awesome.”
What I did not know was,
That I was going to get hit in the head with a big fat possum.
Not literally though, but God himself would.

Week one, BOOM!
Now it wasn’t me and all my awesome friends that I made,
It was just me.
Me and eight kids.
Eight kids that were going to rely on me for everything.
Still, I told myself,
“Self, you got this…it’s easy.”

The pressure was on.
The anxiety was building up.
The devil was knocking at the door, harder and harder.
If it were not for those eight kids during week one,
I think I may have quit.

The devil kept feeding me lies.
“You can’t be silly for these kids.”
“You’re too cool to be acting like a goofball for these kids.”
“Just go home, this is not for you.”

The reality of it is,
Our God is greater.
Our God is stronger.
Our God is bigger.
Our God is all powerful.
He created the stars and the moon.
Better yet, He created you and me.
If He wants you somewhere, He will place you exactly there.
No matter what struggles you may go through, He is faithful.

Week two, LET’S GO!
It wasn’t about me anymore,
It was about one thing…
The Gospel.

James 4:7 says,
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil,
And he will flee from you.”

Week two completely changed my life.
I began relying on the Lord for my strength,
And not on myself.

Seeing the smiles on my campers,
Completely filled my heart with joy.
“It’s not me” – ATP.
From the words of one of the most humble guy I have met at camp.
It’s not me…..

Week three, The Lord is my strength.
The Lord has given me the opportunity to translate the Gospel in Spanish.
Around ten campers from El Salvador are at Castle rock this week,
and I get to share the gospel and translate for them in Spanish.

This was impeccable timing by God, that they came this week.
For I am on work crew, meaning I am not in charge of a cabin for overnight camp.
Because of this, I got to lead their bible study, in Spanish,
and hang out with them throughout the day.

God is good, all the time.
He will place you exactly where he wants you.
The Lord is my Strength.
I can’t do it without Him.

As we continue camp this week and throughout the summer, please be praying for these kids, that they may hear the Gospel and it may impact them. Also please be praying for Pine Cove Staff, that we might rely on the Lord’s strength and not our own, so that the Gospel might be presented to the kids that come to camp.
