A happy Monday it is! We are so excited that our campers are here and getting into the swing of things. Yesterday was a blast as we welcomed them to the Timbers. After a dinner of chicken sandwiches and cheeseburgers, our campers played Holiday Showdown games in order to save the holidays from the evil Patches the Leprechaun! Last night, we also enjoyed our first club of the week, which is a special time of worship songs and bible study led by a Pine Cove staffer. It is really neat to see how God reveals Himself through these talks.
Today was the first full day of camp, and we could not be more stoked to grow closer to our campers. They feasted on sausage and egg biscuits this morning, with the choice of a variety of cereals and fruit. We also handed out the Ark of Awakening, which is awarded to the cabin that won the theme night game the night before. Meal time is a great time here at the Timbers! We have so much fun eating together, cheering, and dancing to fun songs. After breakfast, our campers went to two activity classes with their cabins! Some of these include the ropes course, plateau sports, and archery. Our campers and leaders also discuss the spiritual application of that activity before the campers head to the next class. The Lord uses activity classes in a special way because, while our campers are having fun participating, they also have the opportunity learn and talk about how Christ and His life, death, and resurrection relate to that particular activity.
We also had some Philly cheesesteaks for lunch today, and they were a hit! We handed out the Spirit Stick as well as the Militant Mop for Pit ‘n Palace, which are the prizes given to the cabins that have the most spirit and the cleanest cabins. However, we had a rare occasion happen today. It is so rare that we have a name for it: the Trifecta. Glacier 2 won the Ark of Awakening, the Spirit Stick, and Pit ‘n Palace! Congratulations Glacier 2! Following lunch, we had some funny visitors join us for the skit. Their names are Billy Joe, Peter the Cow, and Bill Sly. It will be interesting to see how their story unfolds throughout the week! After lunch, our campers enjoyed some FOB time, also known as Flat on Back, so that they can take a nap or write letters back home. After a quick rest, they continued their daily activities at Camper’s Choice and then had lots of fun during free time hanging out with friends and counselors before dinner and the theme night!
We have had so much fun spending time with our campers so far, and we can’t wait to make more memories throughout the week growing closer to each other and the Lord. Tonight we will have a great time playing some Galactic Geriatric theme night games and worshipping at Club. God is so good, and what a blessing it is to have our campers here!
How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!
Until next time,
