WOW! With activity classes, Bible studies, and theme nights, we sure have had a great time! Tonight, we engaged in a bit of friendly competition with our last theme night, “OSPN (Outback Sports Programming Network) Under The Lights.” Campers dressed in athletic wear and put on their game faces to compete in various tournaments around camp. Everyone cheered on the oldest guy and girl cabins as they faced off against our leadership in ultimate frisbee and flag football. Then, after hitting the showers and getting all dressed up for the awards ceremony, we gathered back together at the Boomerang to celebrate with the champions and have dessert.
Now, under the light of the moon and those brilliant, Texas stars, the campers are being released with their cabins for a very special reflection time. Campers are encouraged in this time to take in the beauty of God’s creation and think back over the week and all the lessons they’ve learned whether they are from Bible study, an activity class devotional, or a hang time. Counselors will spend this time praying for campers’ hearts and that their barriers to the wonderful news of the gospel will be broken down.
The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
In these peaceful moments, many campers understand for the first time the Truth that Jesus paid the price for our sins and that it is nothing we do, but what He did, that allows us to have life in Him.
We will then all gather back together and campers will have an opportunity to share with the rest of camp what they learned and how God transformed their lives this week. It is a humbling time for all as it becomes clear that authentic life change has happened in these campers’ lives that could only have been brought about by genuine encounters with Christ. Finally, there will be a chance for campers to stand and declare publicly their choice to follow Jesus, and through smiles, tears, jumping, and dancing we will welcome our new brothers and sisters in Christ .
Pray with us.
- Pray that there would be no distractions during reflection time
- Pray that God will move in the hearts of campers, drawing them to Himself and opening their eyes to see the beauty of His free gift of grace
- Pray that campers will be bold enough to stand up for and declare their choice to follow Christ, not only tonight but as they go back to their lives outside of camp
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
What better way to spend a Friday night than under the light of the stars, reflecting on the Light of the world. It sure has been a wonderful week at the Outback!
