For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
– Galatians 5:13
Our Amplify campers had the opportunity to serve through love today. It was a hot day here, and the sun was blazing. But these eighth and ninth grade campers braved the heat to go and love earnestly in the Tyler community. They were up early, joyful and eager for the day.
We partnered with PATH (People Attempting To Help), an organization founded to serve the economically disadvantaged people in Smith County with both emergency assistance and programs to empower and encourage them to become self-sufficient. PATH owns 53 homes in North Tyler, and their Transitional Housing Program is designed to work with low-to-moderate income families to provide safe, decent, and affordable housing while at the same time requiring active participation in other PATH programs that lead to self-sufficiency. Our Amplify campers had the opportunity to serve by painting and doing basic renovation work for 3 of these houses.
While it might have been a full morning of labor, the campers were all smiles. Their hearts were overflowing with joy from the Lord! At the end of the day, we got the opportunity to meet one of the tenants and pray over him. Seeing the campers bow their heads and pray for their brother in Christ was a humbling and beautiful moment. We are continuing to pray that God would teach them what it means to be a servant of the Lord over the next week!
And He sat down and called the twelve. And He said to them, ‘If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.’
