Our last day of camp is upon us! And all of our campers are about to transition from camp back into “real life” tomorrow.

If you’re reading this, then you have most likely been through a few (maybe countless) life transitions of some kind.

Life is full of transitions and moves and different phases or seasons – no matter what they look like for you.  And your camper is about to read and discuss a major transition in the life of God’s people, the Israelites. And it all hinges on what one man will say in response to God speaking to him.

Exodus 33 is the story of God speaking to Moses, as they are about to transition into the Promised Land after decades of wandering in the wilderness.

Pretty much every aspect of their lives are going to change – geographically, economically, politically, culturally, spiritually.

In times of transition, the choices we make are disproportionately important. Because they set the tone and rhythms, the DNA, of the next season of your life. Your camper’s first few days back to their everyday life will really matter.

In these transitions, a lot of times God will draw close to you to test your heart to make sure your priorities are correctly set, because He loves you and wants to make a success out of your next “season”.

Are you yourself entering into or currently walking through a transition of some kind?

How will you make sure your priorities are correctly set?

Exodus 33, God is doing this very thing with His people. He is making sure their focus and priorities are set correctly.

In the beginning verses God is setting up the Promised Land but in verse 3 He says “I’m not going with you.” Wait, what?! Why not?!

Well, in verse 4 God goes straight to the heart of the matter – their hearts! He calls them a “stiff-necked people”. Ouch. Simply put, God is lovingly calling them out for their idolatry and pride and self-dependence. He wants to uncover and heal their hearts! He wants them to draw near to Him and nothing else.

We get to verses 7-11, where Moses makes a tent, a special place for prayer, worship, and meeting face-to-face with God. And he says to God, “No deal! If you are not going there with us, then we don’t want it! We don’t want that place if we don’t have your presence! We don’t want the gift without the Giver!”

Moses is prioritizing the presence of God.

What will this look like for you this week / this year / the rest of your life?

Will you make the time and make a place to prioritize His presence every day, in every moment?

And we get to our Memory Verse for today, Exodus 33:14-15: “And he said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” And he said to him, “If your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here.”

Rest. The only place that real rest is found is in the presence of God – abiding and remaining in the life and easy yoke of Jesus.

You can try any method or acquire anything, ANYTHING, to give you rest. True soul-rest and the peace your heart longs for today, next week, forever – is drawing near, just being with Him.

He is real. He is good. He is for you.

Prioritize and practice His presence today – and forever.

He is with you.
